• Many of our guests here at Lake House visit to explore the beautiful Lake District, discovering famous scenic walking routes. After a long day exploring, many of us feel we deserve a refreshment or two, and quite right!

There is certainly something special about the remote pubs of the Lake District, and with this in mind we have collated our favourite pubs that are certainly worth a visit during your stay with us at Lake House.

    1. Kirkstone Pass Inn
Kirkstone Pass Inn is a very scenic 20 minute drive from Lake House and is a great place to start a walk up Red Screes. At 1500ft the Inn is the highest inhabited building in Cumbria and the third highest Inn in England. The Inn is famously old, with records referencing the building dating back to 14th Century. The Inn’s long and colourful history has led to it being considered as one of the most haunted pubs in the UK, known as the permanent residence of travellers who met their death on the nearby fells.

    2. The Golden Rule
The Golden Rule is in the heart of Ambleside and is in walking distance from Lake House. This pub is favoured by walkers, welcomes dogs and a great place to collect your thoughts after a hard day on the fells! A nice touch is the selection of Lake District pictures on the walls depicting numerous hikers and walkers from the years gone by. The pub is very small serving real ales, and is traditional in style with quaint circular tables and an open fire.

    3. The Mortal Man
The Mortal Man is in a secluded spot near Troutbeck which is a short 12 minute drive from Lake House. If you’re planning to walk in the Kentmere Valley or up Wansfell Pike this pub is a great stop off point. They offer traditional ales along with bar snacks and food. One of the great perks of the Mortal Man is the beer garden, it is huge! Since the pub is situated on a hill, the beer garden overlooks the Troutbeck valley and surrounding hills.
