Walking and Hiking
Heading outdoors and taking in the fresh Lakeland air is always a wonderful way to begin your Lake District break. Perfectly positioned at the heart of the Lake District, a stay at Ambleside Lake House gives you access to a fantastic range of walks, suitable for all abilities.
Just a short northerly stroll of our beautiful bay is Borrans Park, a fantastic picnic destination and the place to examine the remains of the Roman Fort of Galava.
For those with a head for heights, try Go Ape, Grizedale Forest's challenging course of rope bridges and zip slides up to 60 feet above the forest floor.
Golf in The Lake District

For an active adventure on Lake Windermere why not try paddle boarding. Lake District Paddle Boarding is Cumbria’s only dedicated Stand Up Paddle Boarding “SUP” provider in the Lake District. We offer paddle boarding introductions and lessons on Derwentwater, Keswick, Coniston Water, Bank Ground farm and Water Head Ambleside on Windermere. Windermere is the largest Lake in the Lake District at 11 miles long. All our SUP lessons and Paddle Board River Tours depart from Waterhead, Ambleside. The sheltered North end of the Lake is perfect for learning to Paddle Board, with sheltered bays and easy access into the mouth of the River Brathay. The close proximity to Ambleside’s lake side pubs is a perfect location stand up paddle boarding followed by a pint , what’s not to like!

Windermere Jetty is a spectacular new museum that reflects industry and engineering in one of England’s most famously beautiful locations, the Lake District National Park. Within this new museum, we tell the stories behind the boats in our collection, and actively involve our visitors in the crafts and tradition that built them.
Located a short drive away in Windermere it’s a great place for everyone to soak up the heritage of The Lake District! You can book tickets online to this attraction.
